Pop Fly

I love birds. They fascinate me. (You know, the whole "flying" aspect that represents freedom, the majesty of gliding in the sky...I can watch them forever.) I even have an affinity for the much-abhorred pigeon. I believe all creatures deserve respect and no one is more important than any other. This belief allows me to see beauty where many overlook it. If you've read any of my previous posts, you also know that I am drawn to bright colors and like to celebrate the joyful moments that occur everyday.

Hello

This flower looked like it was smiling at me as I walked by so I had to snap it's photo!

The Wedding Invitation

It used to be that as soon as the invitation arrived, you knew what to expect. There will be a traditional ceremony in the chapel, time spent waiting around while the formal portraits are taken, and then off to a nearby restaurant for a reception. Ho hum. But...times have changed. Weddings today are as unique & individualized as the couples themselves. Indoors, outdoors, formal or casual; anything goes! Anything, except conventional & stodgy that is! Today fun & festive are the only rules. When meeting with the photographer, it is critical that candid photos are included as part of the finished product. It is only through these genuine photos that true emotions and honest moments are revealed & captured for eternity. I hope you will accept your invitation with joy and RSVP the following "virtual" reception. Enjoy!

Las Vegas: A Glimpse of the Desert Jewel

I love learning new things. I recently discovered how to create a slide show. I know I'm a little late to this (technology) party, but...better to be fashionably late than to miss it altogether. I hope you enjoy the virtual vacation to Las Vegas as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Summer Kick Off

It's June! Summer is here! It is time for playing in the water! As a warm (or actually HOT) weather lover, this is my favorite time of year! Living in the desert isn't exactly conducive to water sports but we manage. A recent trip to the Colorado River provided plenty of fun in the sun!

One of my favorite sights was the bird debating whether or not to risk going to the beach without a lifeguard.

Pop Corn

When is food more than something to eat? When you take the time to do more than look at an object; when you delve deeper and actually study it, the beauty that had been overlooked becomes unmistakable. Suddenly, the playful curves of the husk that had so valiantly protected the corn as it grew twirled in front of me as if they wanted to dance. The kernels cascaded down the cob in complete disarray, not following the straight and narrow at all. It called out to be photographed and to show that even food can have a touch of whimsy. Please enjoy the journey of a humble ear of corn on it's way to becoming "Pop Corn".

New Arrival

In less than one week, my tiny palm tree more that doubled in size. From the moment I spied the long spindly arms reaching out of the heart of the palm, I was mesmerized. The creature-like appendages were breaking free from their confines and putting on an artistic display for all to see. The sequence below heralds the arrival of the new fronds from soft, fuzzy, and entwined to tall fully developed arms swaying proudly in the wind.

Speculative

The deep gaze. Penetrating. Reflective. Intense.
It would be nice to think that the old saying that the eyes are the window to the soul was true. However, I'm not convinced this is always the case. Do we really claim to know what others are thinking simply based on a picture? Are we, the viewers and not the confidant of the model, simply projecting our beliefs upon someone else? I've worked with this model countless times, yet I'm still not certain what was going on behind the curtain in his mind. I'm just glad I captured the expressiveness of it all.

Yard Art

The unspoiled new palm fronds create a striking representation of playful lines and velvety textures resulting in a delightfully abstract, albeit temporary, work of art.

I say it all the time. The little details in life are often overlooked during the process of going about our daily activities. I spend a dizzying amount of time reiterating this belief of mine. Yet, as I was walking out my own front door this week, I looked to the side and was treated to a most beautiful sight already in progress. The heart of the palm tree next to the entrance was filled with new growth. These young fronds reaching for the sky were climbing out of the tree like newborns stretching upward for their mother. By the time I spied these new arms, they were already beginning the process of unraveling, revealing the tiny intricate spirals of individual leaves. I missed the chance to witness the explosion of buds as they first greeted the day. I didn't follow my own advice, and that makes me sad. This instance renews my belief in the fact we all need to slow down and take time to appreciate the beauty that is all around us.

Tiny Dancers

Many days you feel as if you can conquer the world. But, there are times when the world seems voluminous, and it is easy to recede under the colossal expanse of the universe. Is it possible to hang on? How do you not only survive, but actually blossom when it seems like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? It takes perseverance to find the resplendence that is veiled, but when you uncover the hidden gems...the result is positively inspirational. These tiny petals remain undaunted by the obstacles in their way.

Springtime In the Park

I always know it is springtime when I am overwhelmed by the urge to go to the local park and watch the ducks. I don't exactly know the reason for this desire to go visit my feathered friends at the pond, but I imagine it has something to do with my childhood. I grew up with a strong appreciation for the great outdoors and all the creatures who call it home. Once the cold grip of winter was finally released, it was time to head outside and reconnect with my neighborhood nature buddies.

Anything is possible

True, it is an over-used, trite statement recited to us when we are having a tough day. Yet, there must be something to it because we keep forging ahead. There are times when it isn't easy and there are even more challenging times when it feels as though the only steps we are taking are backwards. Why do we keep going? Why do we tell ourselves we can do it? What makes us think we can overcome challenges? Because deep inside, we believe. We believe in ourselves, our family, our friends, our faith. Inside there is an iron will that refuses to give in. When we believe, anything is possible.

Inner Strength

When is a flower more than just a lovely flower? When you look at it from a deeper, more symbolic point of view. The two beautiful blooms featured here simply have more to them than wispy petals. They both symbolized strength to me as I sat and reflected on them. The cactus bloom seems to glow with an inner fire. A desire to survive despite the fact that it lives under the harshest of conditions. The soft petals in the rain exemplify that no matter how heavy the weight we may bear, we will bend but we will not break. Both also demonstrate that while beautiful and delicate on the outside, there is always something much more profound under the surface. There are times in life when we all need a little help, some encouragement to keep going. If you take the time to look around, you never know where you may find that inspiration.

Golden Glow

I've clearly established that I love color and fun. I've also noted that I'm real enough to know that there are moments in life that require a subdued tones and for that, black & white set the mood. Yet, photos, like life itself, are more complicated than that. Times of quiet reflections are perfectly suited for the golden hues. The soft, warm glow emanates right off the page and into the viewers soul.
